NIBA Presentation Dinner 2009

The Annual  Dinner and Presentation of awards following the recent 92nd Championship of Ireland Contest in the Market Place Theatre, Armagh will be held in the Millbrook Lodge Hotel, Ballynahinch on Saturday 21st November at 7.00pm. Tickets are available from the Association Secretary, Mr William Clements

93rd Championship of Ireland Contest 2010 - Preliminary Details

At the NIBA delegate meeting in Ballyclare on Saturday 14th November it was agree after discussion and taking into account all of the issues, not least being the costs associated with the event and the support to date given by the Armagh City and District Council to the event, that the above contest would be held in the Market Place Theatre, Armagh on Saturdays 16th and 23rd October 2010. The Brass / Concert bands will be on the 16th October and the Flute / Accordion and Schools on the 23rd October. Full details regarding ajudicators etc are still to be arranged.

European Youth Band 2010

The European Youth Band (EYBB) will be convened in Linz, Austria, from the 25th April to 2nd May 2010. The NIBA have been requested to provide players between the ages of 17-21. This year so far we have not been told which instrument places are to be allocated to the NIBA. Therefore it has been decided to audition players for all brass instruments and percussion. Details of any NIBA registered young player eligible should be with the NIBA Secretary (details see Home Page)  not later than 21st November 2009 at the latest for the auditions which will be held in December 2009.When we are advised which instrument places the NIBA is being requested to fill the players of those instruments placed highest in the auditions will be selected.  Please note that this means that the best player at the auditions may not be selected unless his/her instrument is one that the NIBA are asked by EBBA to provide. The costs of all tution, accommodation, meals, events and activities will be covered by the organizers in Linz. The NIBA will pay £100 towards travel costs. In addition grants are normally available from the Brass Band League to each player selected to assist with travelling expenses. The decision of the person appointed by the North of Ireland Bands Association (NIBA) to conduct the auditions will be final. No nominations will be accepted after the closing date.

5th European Young Soloist Competition

The soloist competition for brass and percussion instruments will take place on 29th April 2010 in the Brucknerhaus, Linz, Austria during the period of the European Brass Band Championships.

The Competition has four rounds , three preliminary and one final. In the preliminary rounds contestants are accompanied by a piano player and in the final by a brass band. The entry fee is 75 Euro and prizes range from 500 - 3000 Euro. The deadline for entries is 15th January 2010. Further information can be provided by the NIBA Secretary (details see Home Page).

NIBA Individual Membership

The North of Ireland Bands' Association has decided to offer individuals who may not be members of bands but interested in listening to bands the chance to become 'Individual Members' of the Association . For an annual membership fee of £10.00 you can receive regular updates of what is going on in the world of banding e.g. dates of contests, concerts, outdoor performances etc.  If interested please contact the Association Secretary.
